The First Glory Missionary Baptist Church
History

In May of 1958. Rev. James Mathews started the First Glory Mission. The Mission’s first members were received through a revival in which six souls were saved.

On July 6, 1958, The First Glory Mission was organized into a church body with nine members plus a four+ minister council. To make it official the church voted Rev. Mathews in as pastor of the flock.

On December 7, 1958, with 15 members, the church moved into its new home. On May 27, 1960, the church was chartered as First Glory Baptist Church.

On June 30, 1963, Rev. Mathews resigned as pastor of the church.

From September 1963 to July 1965, the Church had three pastors and a membership of about 30 members.

On November 14, 1965, the Lord placed it on the hearts of the few remaining members to elect a pastor in the person of Rev. Harvey M. Grissom. Rev. Grissom was the pastor of The First Glory Missionary Baptist Church from 1965 to 2009. Under the leadership of Pastor Grissom, we expanded Sunday School, Nature Hour (formerly BTU), several bible classes; Mission, Evangelism and Vacation Bible School. Due to our growth, more space was an absolute necessity. In November of 1978, God blessed us to have our groundbreaking ceremony, and in 1981, we moved into our our current location.

On October 9, 2011 Pastor James Jones was installed as Pastor of The First Glory Missionary Baptist Church.
He continues to be excited about serving the Lord in the capacity of Pastor at The First Glory.

The Lord has given him a vision to edify the body of Christ through sound biblical preaching and teaching. He is a strong believer in the local church setting up ministries that edify the whole body of Christ. However, his heart goes out especially to the youth and the elderly.

He strives to live out one of his favorite bible verses James 1:27 “ Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.”
